With now over a week of unemployment itching my brow, I’ve had a lot of time to.. tweet. Now we, as Americans, have been writing and perfecting our ability to write efficiently since we were begging our mothers to buy us Lunchables for school. Since the handy dandy notebook of Blue’s Clues, we’ve been quizzed and tested on things like subject verb agreement and hanging modifiers. The pure disregard for English grammar and spelling I’ve seen slithering through these tweets has my stomach in knots and I cannot remain quiet any longer. The amount of pure disgust I’ve seen. A desert is a dry stretch of land. A dessert is a delicious way to end a dinner. That simple loss of an “s” changes the meaning of a sentence completely. However, that’s neither here nor there.. or do I mean their.. or do I mean.. they’re? You all surely don’t know because I’ve seen every interpretation of it used. I’m a big fan of Mr. Frank Ocean and my timeline since to also be a fan of his. However, if I see another false spelling of Novacane, I swear there will be hell to pay.

Now I’ve been a victim of the premature tweet myself. There may be something too humorous and you want to tweet it quickly before the allure is lost. Perhaps an irresistibly attractive woman, or a humorously disproportionate man, has peaked your interest and tickled your fancy pinker than a ghetto girl’s lip gloss but the madness must cease my friends! It’s 2011, we have spell check. We have Grammar check. Hell, Microsoft word would have red and green squiggly lines over all you hooligans for committing 1^st degree murder on the english language! It’s I before e except after c. So no more “wierds” and no more “cielings.”

And nothing is worse than when someone says, “It’s just a tweet. It’s not an english paper.” No my friend, it is not just a tweet. It is the representation of a thought you wanted to share with the world. Not communicating it effectively is a disservice. So as you are on public transit sipping on a flavored coffee from your favorite vendor, read that tweet again before you press send. “I’m just saying, you could do better… Tell me have you heard that lately?”

P.S. I wrote this post rather hastily.. I’m sure there are typos… I’d take the time to come over it for mistakes but Entourage is on. *sigh*
